Portugal calculator is now live

Tarifo now covers Portugal — the official court fee (taxa de justiça) under the Regulamento das Custas Processuais, our third state-fee-only country.

What is new

Portugal joins Tarifo as our third state-fee-only country, after the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Portugal has no statutory lawyer tariff — advogados’ honorários are freely negotiated under the Estatuto da Ordem dos Advogados (Lei 145/2015, art. 105.º). So this calculator runs a single engine and reports the one figure that is fixed by law: the taxa de justiça, the mandatory court fee payable to the State to file or proceed with a case. It is set by the Regulamento das Custas Processuais (RCP, Decreto-Lei n.º 34/2008), and every fee is a multiple of the unidade de conta, fixed at €102 for 2026 by Lei n.º 73-A/2025, art. 242.º.

What it accounts for

An ordinary action is charged on the value-banded Tabela I-A (art. 6.º n.º 1): 1 UC up to €2.000, rising to 16 UC at €275.000, then +3 UC for each further €25.000 (art. 6.º n.º 7). Appeals and indeterminate-value actions switch to the reduced Tabela I-B — a column switch, not a halving multiplier (art. 6.º n.º 2, art. 12.º). The domestic injunção and execução use the flatter Tabela II (art. 7.º). A worker bringing an employment claim is exempt up to 200 UC of income, and adoção is exempt outright (art. 4.º). Consensual divorce, company registration (registry acts under DL 322-A/2001) and insolvency (the CIRE regime) are correctly shown as out of scope.

Try it

Pick a case type, enter the amount in dispute where it applies, and you get the exact statutory taxa de justiça. These are mandatory government charges, not lawyer fees — a litigant with insufficient means may qualify for apoio judiciário (legal aid, Lei n.º 34/2004), which can waive or reduce the fee.
