What is new
Hungary joins Tarifo. The calculator computes the lawyer fee under 17/2024. (XII. 9.) IM rendelet — the Ministry of Justice decree on lawyer and chamber-legal-counsel costs determinable in court proceedings, in force since 8 February 2025 (replacing 32/2003) — and the state court fee (illeték) under 1990. évi XCIII. törvény az illetékekről (the “Itv.”). Everything is shown in forint (HUF); the lawyer scale is net of 27% ÁFA, surfaced as a toggle.
A reference scale, and a freshly reformed court fee
The lawyer scale is a costs-recovery reference, not a binding minimum: what a client pays their own lawyer is freely contracted (2. § (1) a)), and the 3. § scale governs how a court calculates the prevailing party’s recoverable fee — 5% of the claim up to 10 million Ft, then +3% and +1% in the higher bands. So Tarifo’s usual “reference values, not floors” framing applies. The court fee runs on a separate statute: the 42. § (1) first-instance civil duty was reformed on 28 January 2025 from a flat 6% (capped at 1 500 000 Ft) into a nine-band progressive scale with no upper cap — which is why the two figures diverge on large claims (at a 30 million Ft claim the illeték is 1 889 500 Ft, the lawyer fee 1 100 000 Ft). The illeték is a state duty and carries no VAT.
