United Kingdom calculator is now live

Tarifo now covers England & Wales — the official court fees under the Civil and Family Proceedings Fees Orders 2008, our first state-fee-only country.

What is new

The United Kingdom (England & Wales) joins Tarifo — and it is our first state-fee-only country. Unlike every calculator so far, England & Wales has no statutory lawyer tariff: solicitors’ and barristers’ fees are a matter of private contract. So this calculator runs a single engine and reports the one figure that is fixed by law — the mandatory court fee payable to HM Courts & Tribunals Service to issue or pursue a case, under the Civil Proceedings Fees Order 2008 (SI 2008/1053) and the Family Proceedings Fees Order 2008 (SI 2008/1054), in their current consolidated form (through SI 2024/476 and SI 2025/1126).

What it accounts for

The headline is the fee 1.1 money-claim scale: fixed bands up to £10,000, then 5 % of the claim value to £200,000, then a flat £10,000 cap. The boundaries are built in exactly as the statute sets them — at £10,000 the fee is £455, not £500, because the band is inclusive and the 5 % rule starts only above it. Flat fees cover divorce (£612), child arrangements (£263), adoption (£207), judicial-review permission (£174) and more. Employment-tribunal claims and domestic-abuse protective orders are correctly shown as no fee (the former following R (UNISON) v Lord Chancellor [2017] UKSC 51).

Try it

Pick a case type, enter the amount in dispute where it applies, and you get the exact statutory court fee. These are mandatory government charges, not lawyer fees — a reduced fee or remission may be available under Help with Fees (form EX160), and figures apply to England & Wales only.

Open the United Kingdom calculator, or read the full United Kingdom methodology for how each figure is derived.
